I often whisk my couples off for a brief stint both before and after the wedding breakfast, if schedules allow.
This not only breaks it up a little, allowing them to enjoy their wedding and mingle with their guests (who have often travelled far and wide to see them)! It also allows me to work with changing light, as day draws to evening.
It’s actually one of my favourite parts of the day....and often the only part of the day that a couple get time alone, away from their guests (albeit with me in tow, following at a discreet distance, like a creep!) :-)
My approach is very relaxed; as we chat and joke, I am watching the light, the image composition and the angle in which I'm shooting, to ensure that the final images are polished and flattering – as well as authentic.
